morMaven Training and Alarm, the public risk management association have come together to offer Management of Risk courses specifically tailored to the public sector.

By running these joint courses Alarm is continuing to embed its mission of supporting excellence in public services through developing and establishing best practice in public risk management, representing the interests of public service risk practitioners and promoting excellence in the use of risk management.

Maven are the largest privately owned provider of OGC accredited courses in Management of Risk. They have become recognised for their commitment to the risk management agenda running regular public courses to help Risk Management Professionals develop capability.

Alarm has around 1,700 members in the risk, insurance, finance, audit, health & safety, emergency planning and business continuity professions. Members are drawn from a wide range of public service organisations, including national and local government, health, housing, education, police and fire & rescue services.

Utilising the M_o_R® guidance these professionals ensure strategy, programmes, projects and operations are prepared to take advantage of unexpected opportunities and deal with business risks.

M_o_R® the OGC accredited Management of Risk course is especially useful for Managers, directors and support staff involved with, or setting up, a system to deal with practical management of business risk.  Working with Alarm, Maven has tailored this course for the needs of public service managers and staff, with both the case studies and the examinations based on scenarios relating to the public sector.

To achieve the Foundation and Practitioner qualifications professionals attend a one week course and sit two papers, the Foundation paper is a 45 minute exam on day three and the three hour Practitioner paper is taken on day five. During the course we look at Organisational context and objectives, stakeholder involvement, activities to enable Risk Management planning, effective reporting structures, roles and responsibilities, support structure, creating a central risk function, early warning indicators, the review cycle for effective Risk Management, overcoming barriers to implementing a risk function, a supportive culture and continual improvement.

Maven Training is passionate about using learning in Risk Management to get real cost benefits. Their experienced trainers and high quality training materials help delegates to learn effectively, so they can put their new skills into practice quickly. They draw on their wide portfolio of knowledge to supply the training solution that helps to build staff capability.

By joining together to deliver these course both Alarm and Maven are looking forward to promoting best practice in the Management of Risk arena where risk professionals help their organisations to achieve their goals while making the best use of internal and external factors.
