2010 Benchmarking Report

Alarm, the public risk management association has today published a report on the Alarm / CIPFA Risk Management Benchmarking Club 2010, which includes an overview of the outcomes of this year’s exercise. The Report waspublished as Alarm and CIPFA launched the 2011 Alarm / CIPFA Risk Management Benchmarking Club following a successful, initial year, which saw 117 public service organisations joining the scheme.

The Club is the result of collaboration between Alarm and CIPFA and is based on Alarm’s National Performance Model for Risk Management in Public Services published in 2009. Membership of the Benchmarking Club provides access to a performance measurement tool which was initially conceived by an Alarm Special Interest Group, comprising professional, practising risk managers, and developed into its final version in collaboration with leading risk management consultants, Det Norske Veritas (DNV).

Dr Lynn Drennan, CEO of Alarm, said “Overall, the findings of the 2010 exercise indicate that there has been significant progress in embedding risk management within public service organisations.  A key area for improvement however remains the area of partnerships and collaborative working.  With the demise of the Comprehensive Area Assessment, the Alarm / CIPFA Risk Management Benchmarking Club provides a unique opportunity to record and benchmark the organisation’s risk management activities, demonstrate achievement and learn from others to further enhance performance in these challenging times.”

Jim Ratty, Assistant Director - Knowledge Services, CIPFA says "CIPFA is once again pleased to work with Alarm to help public sector Risk Managers.  Alarm's risk management expertise and CIPFA's experience of providing member-led benchmarking clubs will provide an ideal benchmarking combination for members."

Membership is open to all public sector organisations via subscription; more details are available at http://alarm-uk.org/members/benchmarking.aspx
