We are looking for a
dynamic, enthusiastic and flexible person to assist the Insurance
and Risk Manager in the provision of insurance services for 16
hours per week.
The central role will be
to handle a portfolio of largely self-funded liability claims
within the Council’s in-house insurance scheme. You will be
managing your own portfolio comprising a complex caseload. The
position offers plenty of opportunity to display business and
negotiating skills.
You will have experience
of handling public and employer’s liability claims up to and
including litigation stage, with working knowledge of the Civil
Procedure Rules and other professional and legislative developments
in the insurance field.
Ideally, you will have
used computerised claims handling systems and be competent on
Microsoft Word and Excel. You will be educated to A-level standard,
preferably with a recognised insurance qualification, have
excellent communication and interpersonal skills and the ability to
develop innovative solutions to problems.

This is an exciting opportunity to work within
the Risk Management function of the Legal and Compliance Services
Directorate. A challenging and rewarding role which has
specific responsibility for Enterprise Risk Management development
and assisting in the delivery of the compliance risk management
infrastructure.
This is an unique position forming part of the
Legal and Compliance Services Directorate, a multi-disciplinary
team providing a comprehensive proactive and reactive legal, risk
and regulatory compliance service to North Yorkshire Police and to
the Police Authority where appropriate.
You will work with (and report to) the Head of
Risk Management, to ensure that the organisation meets and exceeds
legal and best practice requirements in relation to Risk
Management.
With the drive and enthusiasm to make a real
difference in this vital arena, you will also have the ability to
communicate with (and achieve ‘buy-in’ from) colleagues at all
levels of the organisation.
You will have a track record of providing a
high level of service, managing the needs and expectations of
internal and external customers.
The successful candidate will have an
excellent working knowledge of risk management issues within the
public sector and ideally be a member of ALARM or the Institute of
Risk Management.
It is recognised that the essential skills and
experience outlined in the role profile are of a specialist

Insurance and Risk

West Midlands Police provide first
class policing to the communities of the West Midlands area.
We employ over 13,000 people and
have an annual spend of around £700m. This exciting opportunity
results from the forthcoming retirement of the current postholder
in June 2010.
The post leads on all insurance and
risk management matters for the force and takes a leading role in
regional working through the West Midlands Region Insurance
Consortium.
The role also involves building
effective working relationships with external insurers and regular
communication with senior officers. As such, strong negotiation and
communication skills are required, along with a good knowledge of
insurance and risk management.
The post reports to the Head of
Finance on a day to day basis, but is expected to work under their
own initiative, and manages one member of staff.

CLAIMS HANDLER

We currently have an opportunity to work in
the Council’s Risk and Insurance team, reporting to the Insurance
Manger. The successful candidate will need to demonstrate an
in-depth understanding of liability claims and excellent
negotiation skills. You will be responsible for handling RTA, PI
and property claims through to settlement.
The post would suit an excellent communicator
with at least 5 years claims handling experience, and approximately
3 years working within a claims environment. Have an excellent
understanding of personal injury and property damage and a
professional approach to providing the councils Risk and insurance
service. You will hold a professional insurance qualification. You
will also assist with the risk management property initiatives.
