President
Insurance & Claims ManagerDoncaster Council
Wayne has worked in local government for over 30 years and currently manages the insurance function and the in-house claims handling team. He leads the ALARM insurance group and contributes to ALARM best practice guidance documents.
What do you love about your job?
I love the fact that you never quite know what the day will bring, there is a great deal of variety because of the range of services a unitary council provides. Dealing with claims can be very interesting and you also get to build relationships with many colleagues - both within the council and with partners such as insurers, brokers and solicitors.
President Elect
Risk ManagerRenfrewshire Council
Karen has 17 years’ experience working in risk management; five years with the NHS and the past 12 years in local government. She enjoys building lasting relationships with other risk and insurance professionals and finds great value in learning and sharing best practice together.
Why did you become a member of ALARM?
I had barely joined Renfrewshire Council in 2008 when I was sent to the ALARM Conference in Birmingham. I was overwhelmed by the warm welcome, the quality of the sessions, the scale of the Exhibition and the grandeur of the Risk Awards. All of that made a significant first and lasting impression for me and I knew there and then that I wanted to continue to learn from and support ALARM. Having just completed a three-year term as Chair for the ALARM Scotland Branch, I was keen to continue active involvement in ALARM and joining the Board is a fantastic opportunity that I’m now delighted to take up.
