Alarm is pleased to announce the launch of the 2009 Alarm Annual Awards. As the premier public risk management association, Alarm has been recognising and rewarding excellence in public service risk management for more than 15 years. During that time, the Alarm Awards have showcased the best in innovative and effective risk management.

Previous finalists in the People, Asset, Operational and Strategic Risk categories have demonstrated imaginative approaches to tackling both local and major societal risk issues, including anti-social behaviour, obesity, school security and corporate performance. Their entries prove the added value and improvement in outcomes for communities that risk management can bring, particularly when in partnership with other departments and agencies.

Our Risk Managers of the Year have been supreme examples of how one individual can make an impact on public services and on their profession. To a man and woman, they have championed risk management and driven ambitious projects whose value has been recognised at the very top of their organisations. They have also acted as excellent ambassadors for Alarm, particularly when attending the PRIMA conference in the United States as part of their Award.

This year, we have introduced a new award of ‘Young Achiever of the Year’, sponsored by Risk Management Partners. The Young Achiever category recognises the increasing number of young people who are now making risk management their career of choice and making an impact in the workplace. We are delighted to encourage the younger members of our profession in this way and to reward the winner with an expenses-paid trip to the 2010 Alarm Annual Conference.
